Day 37 (Sun. June 18/06)
Jackson, WY to Salt Lake City, UT
Cattle Drive
When traffic stopped, we were not prepared for this event. A few cow "persons" were moving a heard of cattle down the highway. Not being able to keep them on the side of the road, they would close one lane to keep the cattle moving. From the looks of the deposits on the road, they had been on the move for a few kms.
Some of the scenery and long, steep hills. These were awesome hills to ride but we found that the 85-octane gas wasn't performing that well. A couple times we dropped down to 80 KPH and even downshifted to make the top of the hill.
Bear City was all in "bear" theme with it's neat sidewalk benches, statues and displays. The lake was a nice dark blue and looked like quite a popular boating area. Looking back down the mountain, you can see the way the road snaked up the mountain, which lead us to the construction in the following pictures.
This was the worst construction I have ever had to ride through. Two 5th wheel trailers set the pace, which quite often had us in 1st gear at a snail's pace. It was awful rough with large rocks and full of ruts that sometimes steered the bike. I can't say the trailer made much of a difference, as we didn't have to stop or make any sharp turns.
